Clipped Signature - Richard Annand VC. Serving with the Durham Light Infantry during the invasion of Belgium in 1940, he attacked with grenades two parties of Germans attempting to repair a blown bridge, despite machine gun and mortar fire. Later, he returned to the position to rescue a wounded Private and was himself wounded and lost consciousness. For this act he was awarded the first Victoria Cross of World War Two for the British Army. He died in 2004.
