Squadron Leader Jack Steere AFC

Joined the RAF as a ground crew apprentice in 1930, before gaining his wings in 1935 and joining No.23 Sqn. After moving to No.41 Sqn he joined No.72 Sqn in 1937, claiming a share of two He111s in December 1939 and flying during the Dunkirk evacuation. In the Battle of Britain he shared a Heinkel He59 biplane, claimed several other damaged and shared aircraft and claimed a victory over an Me109 on 11th October. He then became an instructor, staying with the RAF until retirement in 1961. He died in 1998.
