Deltic by David Weston. 1961 saw the arrival of the first Deltic Diesel locomotives which soon made considerable impact on the London North Eastern Region of British Rail with speeds regularly in excess of 100mph. This painting features the locomotive D9002 Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, one of only 23 of this type built. The beautiful high arc of York Station provides a fitting frame and handsome background. |

West Coast Express by Ivan Berryman. (P) A locomotive pulling the Cornish Riviera Express service emerges from a tunnel on its way to the final destination of Penzance. This service ran from 1904, converting to diesel in the late 1950s and the route is still serviced by high speed trains today. |

City Trams by Don Breckon. Trams in a classic British city street scene - we have been informed it is Leeds - but is reminiscent of any big British city of this era. The 'Star and Garter' pub is to the left of the picture as the No.156 tram passes on the number 14 route. |

Baldwin at Brecon Mountain Railway by Barry Price. The Railway Engine No 2 was built by Baldwin of Philadelphia in the USA in 1930. The Locomotive worked for 43 years hauling limestone near Port Elizabeth in South Africa. In 1974 the Baldwin Locomotive was wrecked when it ran away without a driver and the engine was writen off. It was purchased by Brecon Mountain Railway and brought back to the UK. The engine is a 4-6-2 tender locomotive weighing 47 tons. In 1990 work was started on the task of rebuilding the locomotive and it finally entered traffic in 1997. The vintage steam locomotive runs through beautiful scenery into the Brecon Beacons National Park along the full length of the Taf Fechan Reservoir to Dol-y-Gaer, one of the best scenic railways in the UK. |
Duchess of Sutherland by David Weston. Designed by William Stanier and built in 1938 for the London, Midland and Scottish Railway, the Duchess of Sutherland ran 1,650,000 miles - the second highest mileage by any Coronation Class train - during its 25 years of service. Retiring from service in 1964, the engine passed between owners before being restored to working order in 2001, and becoming the first steam locomotive to haul the Royal Train for 35 years in 2002, transporting Queen Elizabeth II on a tour to North Wales as part of her Golden Jubilee. Festiniog Workhorses by Terence Cuneo. Specially commissioned to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the opening of the Festiniog railway on 20th April 1836. Now a heritage railway and tourist attraction, the company operating the railway is the oldest surviving railway company in the world. |
Calling at Kettering by Don Breckon. Jubilee class 4 - 6 - 0 locomotive no. 45684 Jutland at Kettering, with a northbound express from St Pancras. Boys from the town school mingle with porters and passengers enjoying the atmosphere of a main line station. The engine was built for the LMS in 1936 and withdrawn from service at the end of 1965. |
