Waterloo: The Chage of the Scots Greys by Stanley Wood (PC) Under the command of the Earl of Uxbridge, the Scots Greys formed part of the third line of Wellingtons troops on the left flank. Pictured is The Scots Greys famous charge at the Battle of Waterloo. Due to uneven ground they were only able to canter towards the enemy however despite their reduced speed they still managed to wade through the French 45th Regiment. The Greys ultimately suffered heavy losses taking over 200 casualties and losing more than half of their horses. Image taken from original book plates published in 1915. |
The Battle Of Fontenoy by Henri Felix Emanuel Philippoteaux (PC) The Duke of Cumberland who was in command of the allied forces measured his strength with Marshal Saxe, who was then besieging Toumay. The infantry dashed forward between the village and the redoubt. The British Guards advanced over a low ridge, and saw the French Guards before them. The French troops opened fire first but most of their shots went high. Then the British troops opened fire and nineteen officers and up to 600 men of the French guards are said to have fallen at the first discharge the Guards drove them into their camp. Here, exposed to the tremendous reverse fire of the redoubt of Eu, the Guards formed themselves into a square, and resisted repeated attacks of the cavalry of the French Guards and Carabineers. Unsupported and decimated by the withering hail of iron that assailed them, the Guards at length began to retire. |

Prince Metternich with Napoleon in Dresden on June 26, 1813 By Woldemar Friedrich (PC) Austrian statesman Klemens von Metternich meets with Napoleon in Dresden, the meeting lasted eight hours and was the last diplomatic meeting with Napoleon before his invasion of Russia. Metternich had brought peace proposals from Russia and Prussia which were rejected by Napoleon due to stipulations involving the return of land. The meeting was said to be mostly cordial in nature but with occasional outbursts of extreme fury, seen here Napoleon has cast his hat to the ground in anger. |

Napoleon Gives the Order to Attack Jena on October 14, 1806 by Paul Emile Leon Perboyre (PC) The Battle of Jena took place on October 14, 1806, Napoleon decisively defeated the Prussian army led by Prince Hohenlohe. The French army's effective use of coordinated attacks overwhelmed the Prussians, who were caught off guard by Napoleon's rapid and aggressive manoeuvres. This battle was a critical blow to Prussian military strength and solidified Napoleon's dominance in Europe. |

Karl Freiherr von Ditfurth fighting the Tyroleans by Louis Braun (PC) The Tyrolean Rebellion, occurred between 1809 and 1810 in the Tyrol region, which is now part of modern-day Austria and Italy. It was a nationalist revolt led by local Tyrolean leader Andreas Hofer against the occupying forces of Napoleon's French Empire and their Bavarian allies. The Tyroleans, leveraging their knowledge of the mountainous terrain launched a series of successful guerrilla attacks. Despite initial victories including the notable Battle of Bergisel, the rebellion was ultimately quelled as French and Bavarian forces regained control. |

General Charles Pierre Francois Augereau at the Battle of Castiglione by Paul Emile Leon Perboyre. (PC) The Battle of Castiglione, fought on August 5, 1796, was a key conflict in the French Revolutionary Wars during Napoleon Bonaparte's Italian campaign. The Austrians aimed to relieve their besieged garrison in Mantua but Bonaparte's rapid manoeuvres and strategic brilliance allowed the French to outflank and decisively defeat the Austrian forces This victory forced the Austrians to retreat, securing French control over northern Italy. General Augereau was entrusted with commanding the French left wing. His forces were instrumental in executing Napoleon's overall battle plan. His ability do maintain momentum and push forward played a significant role in weakening the Austrian resistance and leading to a swift victory |

Battle of the Nations Near Leipzig 16th - 19th October, 1813 By Richard Knotel (PC) The Battle of Leipzig (also known as The Battle of Nations) was one of the largest battles in the Napoleonic Wars and a decisive victory for the Coalition forces. The battle involved intense fighting and resulted in significant casualties on both sides. Ultimately, the Coalition forces surrounded and defeated Napoleons army, leading to his retreat from Germany and marking a critical turning point in the campaign against his rule in Europe. The battle solidified the Coalitions resolve and paved the way for further military successes against France. |

Storming the Heights at Badajos by Stanley Wood (PC) One of the bloodiest battles of the Napoleonic Wars was the Siege of Badajos (16 of March - 6th of April 1812). Wellingtons army faced off against a garrison of 5000 French soldiers in Badajos, Spain. The French forces were outnumbered 5 to 1 by the British, who had a force of 27,000 troops and 52 guns. However heavy fortifications and fierce fighting made the victory at Badajos, a very costly one with the British taking over 4700 casualties.
