Erich Hartmann - The Ace of Aces by Ivan Berryman.

The highest scoring fighter pilot of all time with a confirmed tally of 352 victories, Erich Hartmann is depicted getting airborne from a snowy airstrip in Czechoslovakia, late in 1944 in a Bf109G-6 of 6./JG 52.

First Victory by Ivan Berryman.

Hans-Ekkehard Bob in his Bf109E of 3./JG21 shoots down a Gloster Gladiator on the morning of 10th May 1940, for his first victory. The Gladiator was one of three shot down in this skirmish, with Erwin Leykauf and Georg Schneider also claiming one each.

Tribute to Leutnant Cvitan Galic by Ivan Berryman.

With 38 confirmed and a further 5 unconfirmed aerial victories, Cvitan Galic was the second-highest scoring Croatian pilot, depicted here flying Messerschmitt Bf 109G-2, Yellow 6 during May 1943. Highly decorated for his exploits, Galic rose to become CO of 20.ZJ in March 1944, but was killed just one month later when his airfield was strafed by Spitfires of the South African Air Force.

Tribute to Franz Schieß by Ivan Berryman.

Scoring his first victories on the Eastern Front with JG53, Franz Schieß was posted with his squadron to the Mediterranean from December 1941. He shot down aircraft consistently through 1942, operating from Sicily then Tunisia. He achieved his 50th victory in May 1943, claiming one of his eventual unsurpassed tally of 17 P-38 Lightnings. Awarded the Knight's Cross in June 1943, he was sent on leave for two months but returned in August, claiming 12 victories in 11 days. On 2nd September 1943, he was killed when his Me109 crashed into the sea during combat with P-38 Lightnings. He was credited with 67 victories in more than 650 missions.

Fairey Battle Mk.I by Ivan Berryman.

Fairey Battle HA-J of No.218 Sqn is taken by surprise by the close pass of a Bf109E over France. The squadron were based at Auberive-sur-Suippes in 1939, and as part of the Advance Air Striking Force of the RAF during the Battle of France, suffered heavy losses. An aircraft carrying the codes HA-J was shot down by flak on the afternoon of 12th May 1940. The three crew of aircraft K9353, J B Horner, L C Flisher and L D Davies were all lost.

Tribute to Oberleutnant Heinrich Ehrler by Ivan Berryman.

Viciously maligned for failing to prevent the sinking of the German battleship Tirpitz at Kaafjord on 12th November 1944, Heinrich Ehrler was one of the Luftwaffe's greatest leaders, highly decorated and respected by all who flew with him. The Bf.109s of 6./JG5, based at Petsamo in Finland, took on a variety of difficult roles in the Scandinavian theatre, operating in the most testing of conditions, often round the clock in the summer months. Here, Ehrler's own machine, Yellow 12 leads other aircraft of 6./JG5 on a patrol above the mighty Norwegian fjords.

The final tally of Lawson before he was listed as missing in August 1941 was 6 confirmed, 1 shared, 3 probables and 1 damaged. The Bf.109 shown here was flown by Oberleutnant Franz von Werra. He survived this encounter, but was shot down over Kent in September 1940.

Tribute to Capitano Ugo Drago by Ivan Berryman.

Having converted to the Messerschmitt Bf.109G with 150° Gruppo in 1943, Ugo Drago opted to ally himself with the Repubblica Sociale Italiana when the armistice was announced, taking command of 1a Squadriglia which also re-equipped with the Bf.109G. Drago scored eleven personal victories in the following nine months from June 1944, many of them flying 'Black 7', as depicted here, claiming a P.47 off the coast of Pantelleria.

Tribute to Dieter Hrabak by Ivan Berryman.

An Me109 pilot, Dieter Hrabak scored a victory during the Battle of France, 15 more during the Battle of Britain, commanded JG54 and JG52 and survived the war scoring a total of 125 victories. He is shown here flying Bf109 G-6 of JG52, Krakow, Poland in 1944. After the war he was instrumental in rebuilding the German Air Force, retiring in 1970. He died in 1995.
