Captain now Major, Hansen was awarded the M.C. for a most daring reconnaissance along the coast in the neighbourhood of Suvla Bay. Stripping him and carrying only a revolver and a blanket for disguise, he swam through the sea and scrambled over rocks, which severely cut and bruised him.
