Night Stop - Le Mans 1935 by Keith Woodcock. In 1935 seven Aston Martin Ulsters were entered in the Le Mans 24hr race. These 1.5 litre cars acquitted themselves superbly, finishing 3rd, 8th, 11th, 12th and 15th overall, won the index of performance, was 1st in the 1500cc class and secured the Rudge-Whitworth Cup for 1935. They finished only seven laps behind the much more powerful 4.5 litre Lagonda and a 2.3 litre supercharged Alfa Romeo. Charles Martin also achieved a new class lap record of 81mph which stood until 1950. |
