Doors Closed by Mark Postlethwaite. On a day in early February 1991, a fourship formation of Tornado GR1s took part in a successful dive bombing attack on a military installation in southern Iraq. This fourship operated together on over 16 sorties from Mubarraq, Bahrain and consisted entirely of crews from the legendary 617 Dambuster Squadron. Depicted here is the third Tornado, flown by Flt Lt Paul Wharmby and his navigator Flt Lt Steve Kennedy climbing hard on max dry power shortly after releasing their payload of five 1000lb free fall bombs. |
