Marii chernev, although born and trained in Bulgaria, now lives and paints at his home in the United States. As a leading aviation/marine artist, Marii has produced over 60 paintings depicting British and American World War II subjects, many of which now hang in private collections across the world. In 1998 Marii's work was exhibited in sofia, Bulgaria during the 86th Anniversary of the foundation of the Bulgarian Air Force.

Right Place at the Right Time by Marii Chernev. On July 9th 1944 Fleet Air Arm Avenger II. of 854 squadron intercepted a German V-1 Flying bomb over the English channel, telegraphist/Air Gunner Fred Shirmer destroyed it at a range of 700 yards firing only 20 rounds. for his achievements he received mention in dispatches. |
The Sea Shall Not Have Them by Marii Chernev. As his Squadron mates fly cover, USN Lt W.R Muncie (VF-54, USS Valley Forge) awaits rescue by a Royal navy Sea Otter flying boat. from HMS Triumph. The FAA crew, Lt peter Cane and CPO airman Gilbert O Nion, were awarded the US Air medal and a mention in despatches, respectively for the successful rescue, the last by a fixed-wing aircraft in the history of the Fleet air Arm. |
Hudson Attack by Marii Chernev. On October 5th 1942 Lockheed Hudson N of 269 Squadron encountered and sank U-619 which was on its first patrol. |
Turmoil in Norwegian Waters by Marii Chernev. Operating from RAF Leuchers on January 29th 1943 Hamdens of 455 RAAF & 489 RNAF Squadrons Coastal Command escorted by Beaufighters attacked and sank the former Norwegian cargo ship Kaldes south west of Stavanger. |
