Battle of Flodden 9th september 1513 by Brian Palmer. While King Henry VIII was invading France, King James IV of Scotland crossed the Tweed into Northern England with a Scots Army of 50,000. With the majority of the English army away in France, the defense of England was left to Thomas Howard Earl of Surrey with an army of 25,000 men. The murderous storm of arrows from the English longbow men cut though he Scottish Schiltrons (dense circles of Spearman). The English cavalry exploited this, cutting through the Scots infantry. this was followed by hand to hand fighting, with the English infantry slaughtering the surviving Scots. At the end of the battle King James IV was dead, along with most of the Scottish nobles. The battle was the last battle to be won by the longbow. Signed limited edition of 1150 prints. This Heroic Little Garrison, defence of Rorkes Drift by Chris Collingwood. Men of the 24th of foot, or 2nd Warwickshire regiment (later in 1881 to become the South Wales Borderers) repel the massed Zulus attempting to smash through the mealie bag entrenchment. As well as losing the anti-aircraft cruiser HMS Coventry, the Allies also lost HMS Zulu and six coastal craft sunk by bombing as they were returning from Tobruk. Bismarck Replies to HMS Hood by Ivan Berryman. The mighty Bismarck returns fire to the fast-approaching HMS Hood at the start of a battle that would see both adversaries tragically sunk. The Bismarck would later be attacked by Swordfish aircraft from HMS Ark Royal, damaging her stearing and allowing her to be caught by the British battleships Rodney and King George V. The once proud German battleship would be ruthlessly pounded into a twisted and burning wreck and finally finished by HMS Dorsetshire with torpedoes at around 10:30 hours on the morning of May 27th 1941. HMS Dorsetshire and HMS Maori combed the area of the sinking for survivors, between them picking up a total of 110 out of an original complement of 2,300. Signed limited edition of 1150 prints.
